Township Permits & Applications
Texas Township requires permits for certain construction, land use, and development activities. This page lists the most common permits and applications residents and contractors may need. For zoning-related questions, contact Bill Watson, Zoning Officer. For general permit questions, contact the Township Secretary, Joann Hancock.
Zoning Permits
A zoning permit is required prior to most construction, additions, accessory structures, and changes in land use within Texas Township. The Zoning Officer reviews applications for compliance with the Texas Township Zoning Ordinance.
- New residential or accessory structures
- Additions, decks, and porches
- Sheds and detached garages above the size threshold in the ordinance
- Change of use of an existing structure or property
- Signs and fences where required by the ordinance

Building Permits
Building permits are administered under the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code (UCC). For most building work, residents apply through the township's third-party building code inspector after receiving a zoning permit. Permit requirements include:
- New construction and structural alterations
- Electrical, plumbing, and mechanical work as required by the UCC
- Demolition of structures
- Inspector contact information available at the Township office.
Driveway & Road Access Permits
A driveway permit is required for new driveways or significant alterations to existing driveways that connect to a township road. For state routes, applicants must contact PennDOT directly. Road access permits are reviewed for safe sight distance, drainage, and culvert requirements.
