Roadmaster & Road Maintenance
The Roadmaster oversees the maintenance and improvement of township roads. Texas Township is responsible for its own township roads year-round. State routes (such as PA Route 6 Heritage Corridor) are maintained by PennDOT, not the township.
What the Roadmaster Does
- Snow plowing, salting, and anti-icing of township roads
- Pothole patching and road surface maintenance
- Grading of dirt and gravel township roads
- Drainage and culvert maintenance
- Roadside mowing and shoulder maintenance
- Tree removal in the township road right-of-way
- Reviewing driveway and road access permits

Seasonal Schedule
- Winter: Snow plowing, anti-icing, and salting of township roads. Snow plowing typically begins when accumulation reaches a few inches.
- Spring: Pothole patching, road grading, drainage clearing, and frost-heave repairs.
- Summer: Road surface treatments, mowing, culvert maintenance, and grading.
- Fall: Leaf removal, drainage clearing, shoulder maintenance, and winter preparation.
Report a Road Issue
To report a pothole, fallen tree, drainage problem, damaged road sign, or other road issue on a township road, contact the Township office:
- Phone: (570) 253-4352
- Email: Email Township Office
- Emergency road hazards: dial 911 first, then notify the Township
For issues on state routes, contact PennDOT District 4-0 directly. Township staff can help you determine which road belongs to which agency.
Driveway & Access Permits
New driveways or significant changes to existing driveways that connect to a township road require a driveway permit. The Roadmaster reviews applications for sight distance, drainage, and culvert requirements.
